  1. Marv was the play-by-play guy for the Knicks and Rangers during the late 1970s, when WNEW carried their games. He also did play-by-play for the Giants after Marty Glickman left and before Jim Gordon took over. One of the most enjoyable parts of my job as late-night newscaster was cutting highlights from the tape of Marv’s play-by-play. Occasionally, it fell to me to do pre- and post-game shows, and before the last game of the Knicks’ season one year, I devoted the pre-game show to some of Marv’s brilliant calls. When the pre-game show ended, I tossed it to Marv at the Garden, and without missing a beat, he cracked, “Thank you, Andy, and your check is in the mail!”
