Your Metromedia Station in New York
Bernie Wagenblast, a veteran New York radio traffic and transit reporter, sent me this picture taken at the New York Transit Museum, located in the abandoned Court Street subway station in downtown Brooklyn. The museum displays many restored New York subway cars, complete with period advertisements. Bernie thoughtfully spotted this one and sent it to me.

Marianne,
This wonderful site always makes me feel so young!
Thanks,
Thank you, Marianne! WNEW-AM was the station that made me want to work in radio. Unlike most of my peers who listened to WABC and WMCA, I was glued to WNEW as a kid and wrote letters to all the hosts, including the weekend part-timers, to get signed photos and ask for their advice on how to break into radio. I can’t tell you how thrilled I was to learn that Gene Klavan read my letter on the air. I was in school and missed it.
I did one traffic report on WNEW. I filled in for my boss with Ted Brown one morning. It was a radio dream come true to be on the station, even if only once.
I love your story, Bernie! Thanks for sharing.
Subway and bus advertising was a big part of promoting NYC radio stations. I had fun creating a series for WNEW that featured the on air talent. I think I have photos of them in a scrapbook.
