Enjoyed the Mort Crim posting by Bob Gibson
which mentioned that Crim sometimes filled in for Paul Harvey. Harvey’s base was Chicago but once in awhile he would visit New York and do his “news and comment” from our ABC studios at 1926 Broadway.
It was always a special occasion to see him, pounding away at a typewriter with assistance from an editor/writer. I was doing morning newscasts then
and Harvey bought breakfast for everyone, desk assistants included. Wasn’t fancy, a delivery from a greasy spoon called Johns a couple of blocks away,
but a nice gesture that has stayed with me for so many years.
