New York’s Morning Mayor, Harry Harrison Passes At 89

Billed “The Morning Mayor”, Harrison came to New York in 1959 as midday host at 570 WMCA. He jumped to 77 WABC in 1968 as morning host and would stay there until late 1979. He resurfaced in 1980 at Oldies 101.1 WCBS-FM, where he would remain entrenched until retiring from the daily morning show in March 2003. He briefly hosted a Saturday morning show at WCBS-FM in 2004. He began his radio career as a fill-in host at WCFL Chicago in 1953 and served as Program Director/Morning host at WPEO Peoria prior to joining WMCA.Harrison was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in November 2019, where he made his final public appearance.Harry is survived by his daughter Patti (who worked in radio at multiple stations in Boston and Providence) and son Patrick. His wife Patty died in 2003 and his sons BJ and Michael passed in 1996 and 2017 respectively.
